Inspector’s Death in Jalaun Sparks Allegations of Foul Play by Wife

Inspector Arun Rai was found dead inside Jalaun’s Kuthound police station, initially suspected to have died by suicide. His wife has rejected that possibility and accused a woman constable of murder, prompting police to detain the accused and launch a detailed investigation into the controversial case.

A late-night tragedy inside the Kuthound police station campus in Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun district has triggered a fresh wave of controversy and demands for a deeper probe. Inspector Arun Rai, posted at the station, was found dead after allegedly taking his own life. Within hours, his wife publicly disputed the suicide narrative and levelled serious accusations against a fellow policewoman.

According to officials, Rai was discovered in the station premises on Sunday night, prompting an immediate internal alert. While preliminary information suggested suicide, the situation escalated when his wife, Maya Ram, filed a formal complaint alleging that her husband had been murdered. She named woman constable Meenakshi Sharma as the primary suspect and insisted that Rai, known to be mentally stable and resilient, was unlikely to have ended his own life.

Following the complaint, police detained Meenakshi Sharma for questioning. Senior officers confirmed that the case would be investigated with full procedural rigor. The Superintendent of Police stated that action would be guided strictly by the contents of the written complaint and the emerging findings of the inquiry.

Rai’s death and the subsequent allegations have cast a shadow over the local police force, raising concerns about internal conduct, professional pressures, and the need for transparent handling of custodial or in-service deaths. As investigators work to determine what transpired inside the station that night, the incident continues to stir public scrutiny and demands for accountability.
